A friend of mine recommended hostgator, so I decided to try them. My hosting plan was $115 the first year, which I find to be a reasonable fair price considering their vast selection of hosting.
I use hostgator to host my Wordpress blog, and the webserver is very fast, much faster than any other shared hosting I've tried before. I ran some tests with speedtest that supports this. They are very fast at upgrading their servers to the last version, and with cPanel administering is a breeze. Installing the WP blog with cpanel was done in a matter of seconds.
In the control panel you also see a lot of server stats, like CPU load, memory usage etc. When I write this review (25th January 2010) these are their server specs.
- Apache 2.2.11
- PHP 5.2.9
- MySQL 5.1.30
- cPanel 11.24 (upgrades automatically to the latest version)
- GD/Image magik 6.3.9
They also support a bunch of other things, but these are the things most people above average are looking for. If yoou are in doubt, try out their excellent live support, they will have an answer for you in seconds, a minute tops! :D
